Finding John Pumphrey - A Colonial Era Genetic Genealogy Investigation

This presentation by Allison Peacock explores some of the world’s oldest autosomal DNA profiles through the Camden Burials DNA Project, which is working to identify unknown Revolutionary War soldiers from the Battle of Camden, fought August 16, 1780, in South Carolina.  Allison calls the effort to learn more about America’s first veterans “the investigation of a lifetime.” On June 18, 2026, she and her team announced the first identification: Private John Pumphrey, a teenager from Maryland’s 7th Regiment.
