In 1891, the Redemptorist fathers from St. Mary’s Church in Annapolis began celebrating masses in family homes in this area.  In 1902, a small church called St. Joseph’s was built on Cecil Avenue one mile north of the present location.  The Cecil family donated the land.  In 1908, the Woodward family built a private sandstone chapel at this site. The first mass was celebrated on August 15, 1909.  In 1910, the Woodward family deeded the chapel and its property to the Redemptorists.  The current church was completed in 1957.  In 1978, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, an original part of this parish, was established in Crofton.
