The church was organized in 1849 and rebuilt in 1944. The original church was erected in 1901. Before the church was built, these African-American people worshiped in a balcony in the white church known as Cross Roads Church (now Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church). Several buildings were lost to fire or weather in the 1800’s according to newspaper article of July 21, 1993 (Annapolis, The Capital.) This article also indicates that at least two slaves were buried in the cemetery
