Apparently this cemetery was originally enclosed within a wrought iron fence.
This is a black slave cemetery with several graves according to former property owner John Colhoun; however, 1860 census records show James Bryan as a free black farmhand. His household included Mary Dean (25), London Steuart (75), Rachel Neal (70), Moses Smith (60), Jerry Smith (50), James Smith (27), and Sophia Smith (25)-all black and all farmhands and all born in Maryland.
